In the summer of 2006, ten students and two instructors traveled to the Matagalpa area of Nicaragua to assist a newly formed community of thirty-five families in planning their new village.
Members of The Global Studio worked alongside community members, agronomists, and Agros staff to determine the community’s needs and desires for the development of their new land. Issues addressed by the design team included: housing location, water distribution, communal space design, coffee production, and agrotourism potential. Community members served as a knowledge base and resource for the design team and were directly involved in the three weeks of on-site design.
The master plan document is the result of the work of Global Studio Collaborative in association with Agros International and the people of El Eden. The document serves as a recommendation and guide for the development of the community of El Eden.
